Fowler Returns To Liverpool

Robbie Fowler made a surprise return to Liverpool when Mancester City agreed to let him go on a free transfer.

Fowler, who is now 30, made his debut for Liverpool in 1993 as an 18-year-old and quickly established himself as a prolific goal scorer.

He scored 171 goals in 330 games for the reds before joining Leeds for £11m in 2001 and then Man City for £6m in 2003.

Fowler was delighted with the unexpected move, saying: ” Since I left, deep down I have always wanted to come back and it has been a long time but I’m glad I’m back now. ”

” Leaving was probably one of my biggest regrets. I’m chuffed to bits. I mean I can’t really believe it’s happened again so I’m ecstatic to be honest. ”

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitiz said: ” He hasn’t been signed because he loves the club; he’s been signed because he’s one of the best goalscorers ever to play in the premiership and he can score goals for us right now. ”

” We are close to a very high level right now but with Robbie we can go even higher. ”

Fowler’s return will fuel speculation that Djibril Cisse will be on his way out of Anfield. Cisse has been in poor form recently and has troubles outside the game : on Thursday he was charged by police for common assault on his pregnant wife Jude.
