Bellamy Double Takes Blackburn To Seventh
Craig Bellamy’s double-strike sank Sunderland and helped Blackburn move up to seventh in the Premiership.
The former Newcastle striker put Rovers ahead on 38 minutes and sealed the points for Blackburn with a63rd minute header from Sergio Peter’s cross.
Rovers are now firmly back in the race for a European place, sitting just a point behind fifth-placed Arsenal.
But Sunderland remain a lonely eight points adrift at the bottom of the table, and the reasons for their troubles were apparent here.
Mick McCarthy’s side surrendered possession far too easily and posed little threat to Mark Hughes’ well drilled Blackburn defence.
“It was a pretty straightforward win for us,” said Hughes. “We got our noses in front and saw the game out and it was a good professional performance.”
“When Craig Bellamy is fit and well and firing on all cylinders he is a real threat - he scored two great goals and was unlucky not to get a third.”
