Another Operation For Owen
Newcastle’s Michael Owen has had minor surgery on his broken foot but insists it does not threaten his World Cup place with England.
Owen said he will be “back playing for Newcastle before the end of the season.”
The England striker, 26, broke his metatarsal bone in December and was expecting to return on 9 April, but that will now be pushed back.
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson faces a May 15 deadline to name his squad.
“The specialists say everything is fine, but to speed up the process, they need to tighten the screw they inserted when I had the operation,” said Owen.
“It is a simple process and should ensure that I’m back playing for Newcastle before the end of the season.”
Owen broke the bone in his foot in a collision with England team-mate Paul Robinson at Tottenham on December 31.
Newcastle had previously dismissed reports that record £17m signing Owen had suffered a setback in his recovery.
Owen reportedly missed training early in March to consult the surgeon who operated on the metatarsal in January.
