McClaren Thrilled With FA Cup Win

Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren was delighted after his side reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup after a 4-2 replay win over Charlton.

McClaren said: “It was a tremendous Cup tie. Charlton started on fire. But once we settled in we played some great football.”

“We came out on top because we took our chances. Now we’re in the FA Cup and Uefa Cup semi-finals.”

“We’ve got quite a few games coming up in a short time, but we’ll cope.”

McClaren refused to add fuel to the rumours linking him with the England coach’s job, to be vacated by Sven-Goran Eriksson after the World Cup.

“I’m comfortable with the England situation. My job is at Middlesbrough Football Club and I’m here to bring success,” he added.

Charlton boss Alan Curbishley paid tribute to Middlesbrough goalscorers Mark Viduka and Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink.

“We got off to a flyer and had a couple of great chances but we didn’t take them and went in at half-time 2-1 down,” he said.

“We knew the game was going to open up in the second half but we were undone by two fantastic goalscorers.”

“Viduka and Hasselbaink produced two great finishes.”
