Hewitt and Roddick Doubtful For French Open

World number five Andy Roddick joined the growing list of casualties just days before the French Open which starts on Sunday.

The American injured a foot injury during his match against Chile’s Nicolas Massu at the World Team Cup.

Hewitt twisted his right ankle in Austria on Monday, though scans showed he did not suffer ligament damage.

However, Hewitt’s manager Rob Aivatoglou said: “We’ve still got to wait to see how the injury responds to treatment over the next couple of days.”

Roddick is hopeful that he will be fit for Roland Garros, despite the tournament starting a day earlier for the first time this year.

“I don’t know how bad it is yet,” he said. “It’s not responding to movement very well when you try to flex it. Only time’s going to tell.”

“I just hope I wake up tomorrow and it resembles an ankle and not a balloon,” he added.

“It’s just annoying. It’s disappointing. I feel like every time there’s progress being made something happens and there’s a little bit of a setback.”

“I’ve been hitting the ball great in practice since I’ve been over here and I was really excited. I felt like I started serving well again. I’m just a little unlucky right now.”
