Serena Out Of Wimbledon
Former Wimbledon champion Serena Williams has had to withdraw from this year’s tournament due to an on-going knee injury.
The 24-year-old American won Wimbledon in 2002 and 2003, and last played in January says she is not thinking of retirement.
“These past months have been very frustrating for me personally,” she said.
“I want everyone to know that I will be back. I’m more excited than ever to resume when my body’s ready.”
Williams has played only four matches since last year’s US Open and has been fined by the WTA Tour for pulling out of several tournaments this year.
She had knee surgery in 2003 and has not won a title since her seventh grand slam crown at the 2005 Australian Open.
