England All Out For 173
England struggled on the first day of the fourth test.
They were all out for a 173 with Pakistan reaching 96-1 at the close of play.
England failed to cope with the seam and swing movement on offer to Pakistan pacemen Mohammad Asif and Umar Gul, who took four wickets each.
Mohammad Yousuf was dropped twice late on to complete a miserable day and coach Duncan Fletcher admitted his side had mentally relaxed with the series wrapped up.
Alastair Cook, who top scored with 40 said: “We will regroup and come out fighting. If you get through their world-class middle order you’re through.”
“Hopefully we’ll get a few early wickets and suddenly the pressure’s back on them.”
“There’s been a bit of complacency - we had an off-day in all departments,” he added.
“There is no doubt about it, we gave away a lot of soft wickets. I don’t think that score reflects that pitch.
“We have batted really well this year and this is one time were we didn’t click as a whole batting unit.”
“We have got a lot of work to do. If they get a score ahead of us we are going to have to bat very well in the second innings.”
