Moyes To Sue Rooney
Everton manager David Moyes is to sue England striker Wayne Rooney over comments made in his book.
Moyes, who was Rooney’s boss at Everton before he joined Manchester United in August 2004, will start legal proceedings against the 20-year-old.
Mel Goldberg, Moyes’ lawyer, confirmed he will sue Rooney.
He said: “There are couple of comments but I think the main one is ‘Moyes forced me out’ (of Everton). That was far from the truth.”
Writs have also been issued against the owners of the Daily Mail, who serialised Rooney’s book “My Story So Far.”
Goldberg said: “He’s taken action against the newspaper, the Daily Mail, where the article appeared.”
“The other action will be in relation to the book, so that is being dealt with separately and proceedings will be issued against the publishers plus Wayne Rooney, which haven’t been issued at this time.”
Goldberg explained that Moyes was particularly angered by claims that he forced Rooney out of the club he supported as a boy when he switched to United in a £27m deal.
He said: “No manager wants to lose his best players. Moyes went out of his way to keep him happy.”
“Rooney also claimed there was a breach of confidence, and that is also a long way from the truth according to my instructions.”
“There is also an allegation in the book that Rooney said things to Moyes in confidence and the next day they appeared in the Liverpool Echo. Rooney assumed wrongly that this was a breach of confidence and that’s not the case.”
“David Moyes is a very confidential person and would not leak stories and in fact went to the reverse by trying to keep stories out of the press for several months.”
“He was very surprised and very disappointed.”
